Volunteer

Volunteering is a rewarding and enriching skill for everyone, for the young or ‘new to the work force’ person it can be a valuable life skill and eye opening task. To prepare the person for the work environment and help with decision making on the type of organisation or role they would like in the future.

For the experienced or elderly in our community it is sharing of knowledge for an organisations benefit from a wealth of diverse life experience and can help an organisation reach goals that they may previously not have had the skills to develop in.

Equally volunteering as person with a disability is mutually beneficial, whether it’s a stepping stone to finding employment, transitioning to work from a period of inactivity or to share your expertise in a field, it can be empowering for the individual and the organisation they are assisting.

There are many volunteering websites that can help a person choose an organisation to assist.

However, what resonates across all is to choose an area or topic you are passionate about or an organisation you feel could benefit from your knowledge and skills, your special talents as a volunteer will shine through if you are working in an area you are passionate about and you may gain further skills, development and have opportunities for training you have not had before.

Not to forget the important benefit of a new support system of colleagues for you to be part of. It is not all hard work; friendship, work-mateship, and employee relationships are amazingly supportive and can be a lot of fun as well.

Volunteering can change the lives of all involved for the better and is a crucial part of any strong business strategy and for the betterment of communities.
